Since I’m not smoking anymore, I started looking for a cancer-free substitute for tobacco this morning and I stumbled upon a very interesting article about how a tobacco virus can extend the life of a battery by a factor of ten. This of course may sound like wonderful news for RC enthusiasts or for the compulsive cellphone addicts, but for me it sounds like a long-term death sentence for humanity. Let me ask you a question: Don’t we have enough infectious bugs already to create new, artificial ones and use them in every day products? Why don’t we just sprinkle smallpox or ebola on our spaghetti instead of Parmesan cheese?
The virus in question is the tobacco mosaic virus, which you can see in the photo above (courtesy of physorg.com), it originally grows on tobacco leaves and it is well known for devastating tobacco, tomatoes and other crops but some foolish scientists decided to give it a new home in the ever-growing battery industry.
Hit the break to learn how the virus is going to be used and how it may become some pretty scary shit in the future.
