Prepare For The Next Big Solar Storm, Scientists Say (Plus Bonus Video Of A Big-Ass Solar Flare)

Solar Flare

This past Thursday 24th there was another solar flare, it wasn’t aimed at the Earth like the one from Feb. 14 but it was a quite impressive demonstration of what the sun is capable of. And if you can’t already tell from the picture above that we are royally screwed, then I guess you are more optimistic than I thought.
We were lucky this one didn’t hit us and it wasn’t even that strong, scientists have observed bigger ones, but here’s where it gets ugly: One of this days one of those “bigger ones” will hit us and I can’t say it will turn out good for us. No sir. As a matter of a fact it already happened. In 1859 the most powerful solar flare on record struck planet Earth busting miles and miles of telegraph lines, which back then were like the Internet today. Back then Earth wasn’t as wired as it is today and satellites weren’t even invented yet, today, the exact same solar flare would leave millions without pr0n! cause trillions of Dollars in losses. The modern society would crumble! Remember what happened in Egypt when they didn’t had Internet? This will be like trillions of times worse!

Hit the break to watch a spectacular video of  the solar flare from two days ago and read more about how society will end.

IN 1859 the most powerful solar storm on record resulted in currents surging through telegraph wires and setting buildings on fire.

Mesmerising displays of natural light, or aurorae, were seen around the globe. In the Rocky Mountains the phenomena were so bright gold miners thought it was morning and started preparing breakfast.

Scientists believe storms on this scale erupt from the sun only once every 500 years, meaning we should still be safe for about the next 348 years.

Or are we? The Government’s chief scientific adviser, Sir John Beddington, has warned that a world that now depends on the satellite technologies behind everything from the internet to TV and satnav is acutely vulnerable to a solar storm meltdown.

Dr Breen said the consequences of failing to prepare for solar storms could be catastrophic.

The Millennium bug was an example of how the world woke up to a looming threat in time to neutralise it and we must take the same approach with space storms, he said.

Otherwise, he warned, “significant amounts of vulnerable people” would die as the computer networks we now rely on for everything from medicines to fuel are disabled.

Dr Breen, 46, said: “Transformers in power networks will start to fail so the lights will go out across the northern and southern hemispheres.

But not all is lost, folks, look how beautiful they look!

That was the solar flare from two days ago. Gotta say it looks gorgeous to say the least. We’re all going to die toasted by a beautiful, giant-ass burst of solar plasma. It’s impossible not to see the bright side of this situation! (as a matter of a fact when the next big solar storm hits it will be bright as shit!)
